The Authorities in Colombia's southeastern province of Valle de Cauca on Monday offered a 10,000 U.S. dollar reward for any information leading to the arrest of the killers of a gubernatorial candidate. Antonio Colorado, who was murdered on Sunday, had been planning a campaign tour around the region. Colombia is due to hold mayoral and provincial governors' elections on Oct. 28. The authorities also called on residents in Sevilla, the province's capital city, to provide information about activities of armed groups in the region, especially clues on possible attacks. Colorado, 52, was a member of Cambio Radical, or Radical Change, a party in the ruling coalition. He was gunned down on the steps of the party's Sevilla headquarters. The killing took place just two days after the death of Blanca Marin, a mayoress in the nearby province of Choco, apparently at the hands of guerrillas from the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC). Colombia's regional politicians have complained that they have to carry out their duties under threats from rebels that have kept the nation in a state of war.
