The World Bank called on Romania to speed up the process of increasing the pensioning age, and to equalize the retirement age standard for men and women, the Romanian national Rompres news agency reported on Monday. According to the recommendations in a "study of sector policy", the World Bank suggested that Romania consider an option to increase the pensioning age in terms of the increase in the life expectancy. Romanian Labour Minister Paul Pacuraru proposed the modification of the law on the public pension system to equalize the pensioning age of men and women as European norms required. However, a poll showed that only 14 percent of Romanians accept that the retirement age should be equal for men and women. Many people said that women should retire at 55 because they work a lot at home. Under the current pension law, the legal retirement age now is 58 for women and 63 for men.
