South Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) will hold working-level military talks Tuesday in a bid to support inter-Korean economic cooperation and easing tension in disputed maritime areas. "South Korea has made clear that the two sides should take measures to prevent naval clashes while the North Limit Line (NLL) is maintained. But the North (DPRK) has called for a new border line, saying the tensions in the West Sea (Yellow Sea) are attributable to the lack of an agreed border," said Army Col. Moon Sung-mook, head of the three-member South Korean delegation to the working-level military talks on Tuesday.
The one-day meeting, held at the truce village of Panmunjom, will focus on how to follow up on agreements reached in general- grade talks in May, South Korea's Yonhap News Agency reported. The NLL was marked after the 1950-1953 Korean War by the United Nations Command. South Korea viewed it as the inter-Korean western sea border, while the DPRK refused to accepted the concept.
