The Canadian government has decided to provide more than seven million U.S. dollars in non- refundable aid to support Cambodia's Land Management and Administration Project (LMAP), local media reported on Tuesday.

The official agreement on the financial assistance was inked by Im Chhun Lim, Minister of Urbanization and Construction and Donica Pottie, Canadian Ambassador to Cambodia, here on Monday, said Cambodia daily newspaper the Rasmei Kampuchea.

The aid project will run from 2007 to 2012 and focuses mainly on land registration, development of land assessment system and resolution of land disputes.

During the singing ceremony, Im Chhun Lim extended his deepest gratitude to the Canadian government and the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) for providing the non- refundable aid to the ministry, adding that it is a basic foundation to expand cooperation between the two countries and to improve land control, a very important factor to alleviate poverty in Cambodia.

Pottie also expressed her admiration for the Cambodian government's efforts to promote land control, a reason behind Canada's continuous financial support for Cambodia.

Canada is one of Cambodia's major donor countries.
