Three Russian Interior Ministry servicemen were killed and five others wounded Tuesday when their armored vehicle was attacked in the Caucasus republic of Chechnya, Interfax news agency reported. A land mine went off near the village of Dyshne-Vedeno followed by a firing and a Russian armored vehicle carrying interior troops was hit, Interfax quoted law-enforcement sources as saying. A unit commander, a sapper and the driver were killed and two unit commanders, two sappers and an instructor were wounded in the attack, said the unnamed source. Although Moscow has repeatedly declared victory over the rebels in the republic, they continued to fight Moscow-backed Chechnya government, inflicting casualties on Russian forces with booby-traps and remote-detonated explosive.
