Mortar barrage and gunfire killed a total of three people and wounded 17 others in a town south of Baghdad, a local police source said on Wednesday. "Seven mortar rounds landed on two neighborhoods in the town of Iskandariyah late on Tuesday night, killing two civilians and wounded 17 others, including women and children," the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity. The attack damaged several houses in the neighborhoods, the source added. At dawn on Wednesday, unknown gunmen stormed an apartment in a residential compound in the town and shot dead a government employee who was living there with his family, the source said. The police is investigating the incident, the source added. Iskandariyah, some 50 km south of Baghdad, along with several large towns in the Babil province including Yousifiyah, Mahmoudiyah, Musayyib and Latifiyah, are parts of an area known as the "Triangle of Death" inhabited by both Sunni and Shiite Muslims.
