A U.S. helicopter struck two houses in the city of Mosul in Iraq's northern province of Nineveh on Wednesday, killing four people and wounding 14 others, a provincial police source said.

"A U.S. helicopter at dawn struck two adjacent houses in the Zanjiely neighborhood in southwestern Mosul, killing four people and wounding 14 others, four of them in critical condition," the source from the provincial office of the police operations told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

The source said that the U.S. military told his office that its helicopter received gunfire from the attacked area.

The U.S. military did not confirm the incident yet.
