Lawyers of a foreign doctor arrested in Australia for alleged connection with foiled terror attacks in Britain will be back in court Friday to hear from a magistrate after reportedly asking him to disqualify himself on the grounds of possible bias. This came after Australian Federal Police (AFP) on Wednesday sought a third custody extension, but a day-long closed court hearing was adjourned without a decision being made, Australian Broadcasting Corporation radio reported Thursday.
The 27-year-old Indian doctor was arrested last week in Brisbane, capital of the state of Queensland, as part of investigations into the failed U.K. car bomb plot. He has not been charged -- allowable under Australia's new terror laws. Haneef's lawyer, Peter Russo, would not be drawn to comment on the issues involving the as-yet-unnamed magistrate. Meanwhile, an Australian police officer is already in India to investigate the case, but Indian police have refused to cooperate with the investigation into the background of Haneef. India's Criminal Investigation Bureau said it will not share information with their Australian counterpart until he presents an Australian court issued document relating to the case.
