Two villagers were killed in a drive-by shooting in Thailand's southernmost province of Narathiwat Thursday morning.

Phin Hirunphun and his wife Boonthip Hirunphun were shot dead by a gunman on a motorcycle while they were traveling to the market in Rangae district, according to the Thai News Agency.

Police believed that the shooting is related to the southern unrest.

Narathiwat and its neighboring provinces of Yala and Pattani have been hit by insurgents on an almost daily basis and nearly 2, 300 persons have died in over three years of violence.
