France on Thursday signed a cooperation agreement in the field of agricultural research with Algeria, within the framework for reinforcing cooperation between the two countries, French Institute for Agricultural Research ( INRA) has announced.
The agreement, which was signed on behalf of France by INRA and the International Cooperation Center of Agricultural Research for Development (CIRAD) and by the National Institute for Agricultural Research of Algeria and the National Forestry Research Institute on behalf of Algeria, covers research in the domain of agriculture, forestry and environment, according to the statement.
The research fields targeted by the agreement include innovative and sustainable systems for animal and plant production, sustainable management of natural resources particularly water resources, impact of climatic change on agriculture, applied biotechnology, rural economy and local development as well as fight against emerging plant and animal diseases.
Since 2006, a vast program aimed at reinvigorating bilateral cooperation between France and Algeria was initiated in the domains of training, higher education and agricultural science by the agricultural ministries from the two countries.
