A bus traveling at high speed at a highway curve fell off a deep cliff on Friday in southwestern Guatemala, killing at least 10 people and injuring 36 others, news reports said.

The bus went off the 300-meter-deep cliff on Friday morning in the Quiche province, 280 km northwest of Guatemala City, the country's capital.

The injured were sent to a nearby hospital. Rescue workers said the death toll may rise since many of the injured are in serious conditions.

The passengers on the bus were participants of a government reforestation program and were on their way to a nearby community to plant trees.
