Two U.S. soldiers were killed in bomb attacks in Iraq on Saturday, the U.S. military said on Sunday.
One U.S. soldier was killed and another injured when an explosively-formed penetrator, or EFP, detonated near their patrol during combat operations in eastern Baghdad on Saturday, a military statement said.
Separately, another soldier was killed when a landmine detonated near his foot patrol, the military said in a brief statement without saying where the incident took place.
EFP, also known as explosively-formed projectile, is a shaped charge explosive designed to penetrate armor effectively. They were first developed during World War II.
Previously, U.S. officials accused Iran of providing and training militia in Iraq with these deadly bombs, but Iran denied the accusations.
The latest deaths bring the number of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq to about 3,615 since the Iraq war broke out in March 2003, according to media count based on Pentagon figures. Source: Xinhua
