Two boats with 17 local people on board sank due to whirlwinds in Vietnam's central Quang Nam province, killing six, local newspaper Young People reported Monday.

The boats capsized when running in Ho Phu reservoir in the province's Tam Ky city, where the victims aged 30-33 went for fishing for pleasure on Sunday afternoon.

Local residents rescued 11 others on the boats.

Three years ago, a similar boat accident in the reservoir claimed four lives.
