Seven Iraqis including five soldiers were killed and seven others injured in roadside bomb explosion and mortar barrage in Baghdad on Monday, an Interior Ministry source said.

"A roadside bomb detonated in the morning near an Iraqi army patrol in the Bob al-Sham area in northern Baghdad and damaged a military vehicle, killing five soldiers and wounded another aboard, " the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

In southern Baghdad, mortar rounds landed on the Abu Dsheer neighborhood, killing two people and wounding six others, the source added.

Violence continued infesting Baghdad's streets despite five months of U.S.-Iraqi security plan aiming at reining in rampant violence in the capital.
