Two women were killed and five others were wounded when a car of a man who was freed by his kidnappers detonated in eastern Baghdad on Monday, a well-informed police source said. The victims were family members of the car owner who had returned home in Zaiyouna neighborhood after being freed by his kidnappers, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity. The source said that the kidnappers apparently booby-trapped the man's car before they released him in order to detonate it later at his home. Earlier, the source said that a suicide car bomb struck a police commando checkpoint in Baghdad's western neighborhood of Harthiyah, killing a commando member and a civilian and wounding 12 people, including four commando members. Earlier the source put the toll at one killed and six others wounded. Violence continued in the capital despite five months of U.S. and Iraqi security plan aiming at putting rampant violence under control.
