The Zambian government Monday urged women in the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) to come up with strategies that will accelerate their representation in decision making. Gender Minister Patricia Mulasikwanda said here that the strategies which should be applicable across the region would empower women to push for their representation in decision making. She called on women to be united and speak with one voice irrespective of their political affiliation. She said that her country has failed to reach the 30 percent SADC declaration of gender participation in decision making because of failure by women to speak with one voice and politicking in political parties. When she opened the Regional Women's Parliamentary Caucus workshop, Mulasikwanda said that women would fail to increase representation in parliament after the 2011 elections, if they do not move in unison.
