Ukrainian Foreign Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk pledged on Tuesday that Ukraine will hold the most transparent parliamentary elections in its history, which are due on Sept. 30 this year. "My message is Ukraine will have transparent, democratic and legitimate elections," Yatsenyuk told reporters following talks with European Union (EU) Commissioner for External Relations Benita Ferrero-Waldner.
At the meeting, Ferrero-Waldner and Yatsenyuk discussed the current state of EU-Ukraine relations in view of the forthcoming EU-Ukraine summit on Sept. 14 in Kiev, and particularly negotiations over a new enhanced agreement. They also exchanged views on regional issues, notably Transnistria, the issue of visa facilitation and readmission, and Ukraine''s bid to join the World Trade Organization (WTO). Both sides expressed their optimism for future negotiations over the EU-Ukraine enhanced agreement.
"Prospects for cooperation with EU are very good," Yatsenyuk said.
Ferrero-Waldner said she was encouraged by "good progress" in the negotiations, and was looking forward to continuing "the constructive spirit." "In all, we have good progress on every issue, we are looking forward to a very good summit in the middle of September," she added.
