Meanwhile, she stressed the importance of political stability in Ukraine in its efforts to get closer to the EU.

"All this could not be achieved without an overall situation of political stability. It is important that the elections take place on September 30," she said. "We do hope there will be a stable political situation to be followed by comprehensive reforms."

Concerning Ukraine''s bid to join the WTO, Ferrero-Waldner said the EU fully supports Ukraine''s early accession to the world trade body.

Yatsenyuk was confident that Ukraine will join the WTO by the end of the year although some issues remain.

He also revealed that following Ukraine''s entry into the WTO, Ukraine and the EU will discuss the issue of a free trade area (FTA).

"Informal consultations (on FTA) are going on. We are waiting for WTO accession, and afterwards we can proceed toward real, formal negotiations on FTA," he said.
