Unknown armed men opened fire on road workers in Afghanistan's eastern Paktia province Wednesday killing two persons, provincial government spokesman Deen Mohammad Darvish said.

"At around 10:00 a.m. local time unknown militants sprayed bullet on a survey team of the road connecting Paktia to Khost killing two persons," Darvish told Xinhua.

Four more persons were injured in the incident, he added.

However, he did not give more details.

Meantime, a senior police officer in Paktia province Ghulam Dastgir Rustamyar said that one of dead men was a Philippine national worked for a road construction company in the area.

Officials in Kabul have not made any comment on it.
