Militants fighting Afghan government attacked a police patrol team in south Afghanistan Wednesday morning, leaving six policemen dead, a local official said.
"A group of armed Taliban insurgents laid ambush on a police patrol team in Shar-e-Safa district of Zabul province this morning at 6:00 a.m., leaving six policemen dead and wounding five others, " provincial police chief Mohammad Yaqub told Xinhua.
After the attack, the militants, he added, abandoned the area for their hideouts.
Attack against NATO forces in the southwest Afghan capital Kabul on Wednesday wounded a soldier and a civilian.
More than 3,000 people mostly insurgents ,according to officials, have been killed in Afghanistan over the past seven months. Source: Xinhua
