There has been no progress in probe into Tuesday's deadly suicide bomb attack in the Pakistani capital of Islamabad, which killed 17 people and injured more than 50 others, official sources said.
The bomber blew himself up near the venue of the meeting of suspended Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhamamd Chaudhry, who was not there at the time of the blast. Chaudhry canceled his speech and offered condolences over the deaths. The sources said that the investigators were trying to identify the bomber with the help of his head found after the blast. Doctors were busy in plastic surgery of the head in an attempt to identify the bomber, the sources said. A high power joint investigation team of law enforcement agencies Wednesday initiated the inquiry of Tuesday's suicide bomb blast at district courts here, Chief Commissioner Islamabad Khalid Pervez said. Talking to the state-run television, he said that some technical experts had been included in the committee to ascertain the real culprits behind killings of 17 innocent people. He said that the jacket used in the suicide blast had been taken into custody while some other important particles were being examined by the authorities. Pakistan's Interior Minister Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao said that six kilograms of explosives were used in the blast. He said a mobile sim had been recovered from the blast site, which he said could help in investigation. The bomber exploded near a camp of the opposition Peoples Party set up to welcome the Chief Justice. Chairperson of the Peoples Party Benazir Bhutto said that her party was the target as she had adopted a harsh position over the extremism.
