The first session of the 12th National Assembly (NA) of Vietnam, starting Thursday, will vote for top posts, including NA chairman, state president and prime minister, and touch upon other important socioeconomic issues.
The NA, Vietnam's top legislature, will vote for the NA chairman, NA vice chairpersons and members of the 12th NA Standing Committee on July 23; state president on July 24; and vice state president, prime minister and heads of the Supreme People's Court and the Supreme People's Procuracy on July 25.
"The NA will also discuss and then decide the organizational structure of the government, approve the appointment of deputy prime ministers, ministers and other cabinet members," Nguyen Phu Trong, chairman of the 11th NA, said at the session.
The NA will hear a government report on the number of deputy prime ministers, the establishment and the dissolution of some ministries and state agencies equivalent to ministries on July 30, and approve the appointment of cabinet members, and the list of members of the National Defense and Security Council on August 2.
The session, to last until August 6, will also center on some other important issues, including shortening the term of the 12th NA to 4 years from the current 5 years, and passing a bill on amendment to some articles of the Anti-Corruption Law.
At the session on Thursday morning, Nong Duc Manh, general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, said the 12th NA should focus on five major tasks: building a synchronous and feasible law system, enhancing effectiveness of supreme supervision towards the state apparatus, especially administrative and juridical bodies, raising the legislature's role and responsibility in deciding national issues, continuing to implement external work, and reforming ways of meeting with voters.
