A suicide bombing killed one civilian and injured 11 others in Badakhshan province of northeastern Afghanistan on Thursday, provincial police chief Aqa Noor Kintoz said. The explosion, which occurred at around 8:00 a.m. (0330 GMT) in the provincial capital Fayzabad, apparently was targeting NATO forces, Kintoz told Xinhua. However, the Interior Ministry said the blast, which happened at a square in the city center, failed to attack a police building nearby. On Wednesday, two suicide bombings killed three policemen and injured two persons in the eastern Khost province and in Kabul. Due to rising Taliban insurgency, over 3,000 persons, most of them Taliban militants, have been killed in Afghanistan this year.
