Islamic Jihad (Holy War) armed wing, Saraya al-Quds, claimed responsibility on Thursday for launching one medium-range homemade rocket from Gaza at southern Israel. The group said in a leaflet sent to reporters that its militants fired the rocket "to revenge the ongoing daily Israeli crimes committed against our people in the West Bank."
The group also claimed responsibility for firing two homemade mortar shells at Erez terminal on the northern tip of Gaza Strip with Israel, noting that "the attack is a response to the Israeli crimes." Meanwhile, Israeli Radio quoted Israeli police forces as saying that the rocket fired from Gaza landed at the southern Israeli town of Sderot, causing damages and fear among the town's residents. In another development, Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) said in a statement that Israel banned its senior leader Salleh Zeidan from leaving Gaza Strip to West Bank.
Zeidan is also the former minister of social welfare in the sacked national unity government led by Hamas leader Ismail Haneya. Zeidan was planning to join the meeting of Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Central Council held in Ramallah. In the West Bank, local sources and witnesses said that Israeli army bulldozers demolished the home of a Hamas member in the village of Zawata near the northern West Bank city of Nablus. The witnesses said that dozens of Israeli army bulldozer backed by armored vehicles stormed the village and surrounded the home of Ass'ad Natour and detained his son Jihad, 21.
