Beninese president Yayi Boni has left the country for a two-day official working and friendship visit to France.

During his visit in Paris, Boni who left Cotonou on Wednesday is expected to hold wide ranging talks with his French host Nicolas Sarkozy "on subjects of common interest with a view of consolidating fruitful relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries," according to a statement issued Wednesday by Beninese foreign affairs ministry.

He will also meet senior government officials and key economic operators, says the statement.

This is the first visit to France by Beninese head of state since the election of Sarkozy as president of France, who last visited Benin less than a year ago in his capacity as French interior minister.
