At least 4 million people in selected countries of the Southern African Development Community ( SADC) are in need of food aid, ZANIS reported on Thursday. SADC Executive Secretary Tomaz Salomao was quoted as saying that Lesotho, Mozambique, Botswana, Zimbabwe and some parts of South Africa experienced drought during the 2006/2007 farming season, a situation that affected food production. He said SADC countries should now facilitate the process of importing and exporting food supplies within the region to help feed the affected people in the region.
He, however, mentioned that the overall food security situation in the region is good and that most citizens are not food insecure.
