The 12th National Assembly of Vietnam, the country's top legislature, is likely to have four vice chairpersons, compared with three in the 11th tenure, local media reported Friday. The 11th NA Standing Committee has proposed the 12th NA should have four vice chairpersons who will be in charge of law and justice, economy and finance, culture and society, and defense and security, respectively, said Saigon Liberation newspaper. The 13-member committee has also proposed the 12th NA Standing Committee should have 18 members. "I think it is necessary to have more senior NA posts because each NA tenure has specific tasks. The 12th NA should have more vice chairpersons and the 12th NA Standing Committee should have more members. This is a normal trend," Nguyen Van Yeu, vice chairman of the 11th NA, was quoted by Pioneer newspaper. The first session of the 12th NA, starting Thursday, will vote for the NA chairman, NA vice chairpersons and members of the 12th NA Standing Committee on July 23; state president on July 24; and vice state president, prime minister and heads of the Supreme People's Court and the Supreme People's Procuracy on July 25.
The NA will hear a government report on the number of deputy prime ministers, the establishment and the dissolution of some ministries and state agencies equivalent to ministries on July 30, and approve the appointment of cabinet members, and the list of members of the National Defense and Security Council on Aug. 2.
