The EU science and research ministers agreed on Friday in Lisbon to strengthen cooperation between the 27 member states in their efforts to promote science and technology. The European Union (EU) countries will head toward the same direction in the sector despite different views, the EU's Science and Research commissary Janez Potocnik said. The ministers agreed to strengthen the national policies to promote science and technology through international cooperation. Portugal's minister of science, technology and university, Mariano Gaga, said work project was discussed, including advances in the sector at national level and in the EU. In their 2nd meeting during Portugal's six-month EU presidency, the ministers agreed that a stronger scientific and technological sector will also strengthen the European economy and produce more jobs. The ministers also talked about education programs, creation of attractive labor market conditions and elimination of obstacles in the EU.
