At least one civilian was killed and three others were injured in a roadside bomb explosion in eastern Baghdad on Saturday, a well-informed police source said. "A roadside bomb detonated around midday near a bus carrying passengers in the Baladiyat neighborhood, killing a passenger and wounding three others," the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity. The blast badly damaged the bus, the source said, adding that the incident is under investigation.
Earlier, police said that a booby-trapped minibus went off in the morning on the main road in the town of Mahmoudiyah, some 30 km south of the capital, killing at least a civilian and wounding five others. Violence continued in the capital despite a five-month U.S. and Iraqi security plan aiming at reining in rampant violence.
