Madagascan President Marc Ravalomanana intended to dissolve the National Assembly, the lower house of the Madagascan parliament, before the legal deadline at the end of the year.
The president declared on Friday during his tour in the southwest province of Toliara that he was going to dissolve the National Assembly before the end of the current legislature term, the French-language daily, L''Express, reported here on Saturday.
He did not give many details of his decision, saying only that it would come very soon and that he would soon officialize the decree. The situation must be adapted to the reality and adjusted with the revised constitution, Ravalomanana added. Majority of Madagascans approved revision of the constitution in a national referendum in April this year.
Ravalomanana explained as a logic approach to hold the National Assembly election earlier in order to realize his government economic development plan, or Madagascar Action Plan ( MAP), announced at the end of last year. According to Madagascar Constitution, the president has the power to dissolve the parliament or to hold earlier elections in case of urgency and catastrophes, or quite simply, within the framework of arrangements related to the implementation of the institutions.
