Zambian President Levy Mwanawasa met here Saturday with visiting former United States president Bill Clinton.

The closed door meeting lasted for over one hour.

Health Minister Brian Chituwo, Foreign Minister Mundia Sikatana and other senior government officials were part of the Zambian delegation that met the former U.S. president at State House.

Clinton's visit is part of his four nation African tour of South Africa, Malawi, Zambia and Tanzania to oversee the projects funded by the Clinton Foundation.

On June 28 this year U.S. first lady Laura Bush visited Zambia and toured HIV/AIDS education and women empowerment programs in the suburbs of the capital city of Lusaka.

Clinton is scheduled to leave Zambia for Tanzania Sunday before returning home on Tuesday.
