Baykal defended that CHP has become a party of every segment of the society who believe in the integrity of the country. The Young Party (GP) and the Democrat Party (DP) are present all around but have failed to mobilize support in a lot of regions because many believe neither will pass the 10 percent election threshold. Fourteen parties and some 700 independent candidates are running for 550 parliament seats. Parties must win at least 10 percent of the national vote to earn seats in parliament. The voting will start at local time 8:00 a.m. (0500 GMT) and finish at 5:00 p.m. (1400 GMT) except for 32 eastern and southeastern cities, where voting will occur between 7:00 a.m. ( 0400 GMT) and 4:00 p.m. (1300 GMT).
The results will begin to be broadcast by 9.00 p.m. (0600 GMT) but the Supreme Election Board (YSK) can take it one hour earlier.
