Unknown gunmen assassinated a senior officer of the Iraqi Interior Ministry in northern Baghdad on Sunday, a ministry source said. "Unidentified armed men shot dead Brigadier Falah Khalaf Jaber, who works for the police affairs agency in the Interior Ministry in the neighborhood of Ur," the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity. The victim was driving his car in the neighborhood heading to his work in the morning when the gunmen attacked him, the source said. The incident is under investigation, he said. In a separate incident, a roadside bomb went off near a minivan in Baghdad's southeastern neighborhood of al-Amin, killing a civilian and wounding five others, the source told Xinhua. Sporadic bomb attacks and gunfire continued in Baghdad despite five months of major U.S. and Iraqi security plan designed to curtail insurgency and sectarian violence in the capital.
