Nepali Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala Sunday said that violation of press freedom in any form is not acceptable at any cost, reported website ekantipur. During a meeting with Kathmandu-based newspaper publishers and television broadcasters Sunday, PM Koirala said interventions in the press on any pretext will not be tolerable.
On the attacks on the press by the Communist Party of Nepal ( Maoist) (CPN-M) affiliated trade unions, PM Koirala promised to take the issue up with the CPN-M leadership and request them to stop such attacks on the press, said Chairman of the Media Society Mahendra Sherchan. PM Koirala also assured that the government would take strong action if the requests are turned down. Claiming that the press was suffering from political intervention, the Media Society said that it has also warned of a movement against the state if the problems were not solved.
