One German hostage and four Afghans, who were kidnapped in central Afghanistan days ago, have not been killed by Taliban fighters, a purported Taliban spokesman Yousuf Ahmadi said Monday.
Ahmadi said from an undisclosed place by telephone that the Taliban wanted to exchange the five hostages for 10 Taliban prisoners.
On July 18, two Germans and five Afghans were abducted in Wardak province. Ahmadi said the other German and the fifth Afghan had been executed. Earlier, the Taliban claimed all the seven hostages were killed. But the Afghan and German governments have insisted one German died of a heart attack, while the other is still alive according to their intelligence acquired.
Taliban militants have carried out kidnappings in this country frequently over the past two years, and some hostages were killed by the Taliban brutally.
