A Norwegian soldier belonging to the Norwegian Special Force was on Monday shot and killed in action in the Lowgar province in Central Afghanistan near the border with Kabul province, said reports from Oslo.
The Norwegian patrol was on a reconnaissance mission together with Afghan security forces when it came under fire, and one Norwegian soldier was shot and killed, Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) reported.
The aim of the mission was to prevent Afghan rebel forces from attacking targets the Kabul province, according to NRK. No other Norwegian soldiers were injured in the exchange. This is the second Norwegian soldier killed in Afghanistan. Norway has at present around 700 men and women stationed in Afghanistan.
