Polish sailors rescued in Sweden after boat sinks

Nine Poles have been rescued from the Baltic Sea off Sweden after their yacht sank, local media reported on Monday.

The boat got into difficulties eight nautical miles north-west of Haradsskar, an island off Valdemarksvik, 215 kilometers south of Stockholm, Swedish news agency TT reported.

The alarm was raised at 10:36 a.m. About half an hour later a rescue helicopter from Visby caught sight of the group's life-raft. All nine were winched into the helicopter unharmed. They landed in Valdemarsvik at 11:30 a.m.

It is so far unclear why the boat sank. Police were questioning the crew on Monday afternoon, according to TT.
