Vietnam is vaccinating over 4 million children aged 1-2 in 17 northern mountainous provinces against measles from September to the end of 2008, local newspaper Labor reported Tuesday.
The immunization program worth over 3 million U.S dollars funded by the World Health Organization is conducted in the provinces, including Ha Giang, Dien Bien, Lai Chau and Lao Cai, where many measles outbreaks have reoccurred in recent years.
The number of cases of measles infections in the 17 provinces increased to 2,000 in 2006 from only four in 2004, said chairman of the National Immunization Program Do Si Hien.
