Karun also said he believed the suspension of the FTA talks with the U.S. would not affect the trade and investment cooperation between the two countries, according to Thai News Agency. The United States is Thailand''s largest trading partner, with two-way trade reaching more than 30 billion U.S. dollars last year. Starting in 2003, the U.S.-Thai FTA talks have triggered demonstrations in Thailand opposing possible controversial articles regarding patent protections for U.S. pharmaceuticals, which the critics said deprived poor Thai patients of access to affordable medicines for treating wide-affacting diseases like AIDS.
