The 11th Arab-African Parliamentary Conference on Tuesday affirmed its support for Syria's right to restore the Golan Heights occupied by Israel.
The two-day conference made the assertion in a final statement, stating that all Israeli decisions on annexing the Golan are null and void, Syria's official SANA news agency reported.
The Golan Heights was occupied by Israel in the 1967 Middle East war and the Jewish state annexed it in 1981, a move not internationally recognized.
According to the SANA, the conference also expressed support to Syria in the face of isolation campaigns of intimidation and defamation, rejecting any proposed sanctions against it.
The conference also stated positions on various issues in the region, particularly in the Palestinian territories, Iraq and Lebanon as well as in Somalia and Sudan.
On the Palestinian issue, it called upon the Palestinian factions to abandon infighting and resort to dialogue to solve their differences.
On Iraq, the statement appealed for respecting its independence and sovereignty and its people's right to choose their political system, while calling for a timetable for the withdrawal of foreign forces and a regional conference to open dialogue among Iraqi groups.
On Sudan, the conference called for respecting the unity of Sudan's land and people, delivering support to efforts of bringing peace to the western Sudanese region of Darfur through negotiations.
The conference also expressed worry regarding the increasing debts of the African nations, calling for Afro-Arab economic and investment cooperation in various fields.
The conference started on Monday, gathering representatives from 30 Arab and African countries.
