The death toll rose to 10 from a suicide car bombing in western Baghdad targeting a gathering of Iraqis who were celebrating their national soccer team's victory on Wednesday, police said.

"According to our latest report, the suicide car bombing in Mansour district in western Baghdad killed 10 civilians and injured 61 others," a police source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

Earlier, the source said a crowd of jubilant Iraqi football fans were struck by a suicide bomber while celebrating in Mansour district after Iraq beat South Korea with a 4-3 win through penalty shootout to reach the 14th Asian Cup final for the first time.

The historic victory of Iraqi football team sparked wild celebrations in Baghdad. Many citizens rushed into the streets and fired in the air.

After Iraqi football players made the semi-finals of the Asia Cup on Saturday, gunfire of celebrations killed two people and wounded 15 others in Baghdad.

In other violence, a suicide car bomber attacked an Iraqi Army checkpoint in Ghader district in eastern Baghdad on Wednesday, killing two people and injuring five others, police said.
