Rwandese Foreign Affairs Minister Charles Murigande postponed Wednesday an official visit to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) which had been planned to take place in late July at the invitation of his Congolese counterpart Antipas Mbusa Nyamwisi.
Murigande defended the postponement citing his tight schedule, while nevertheless confirming the visit will be re-organized at a later date after consultation with the Congolese foreign minister.
According to Nyamwisi, the multiplicity of negotiations between DRC and Rwanda is aimed at breaking the deadlock over suspended relations between the two countries since August 1998, following the aggression against DRC which was allegedly sponsored by Rwanda. The two ministers will be meeting to re-establish relations between their countries, with a view of consolidating them for the benefit of their respective peoples.
