Mehmet Cihat Ozonder, who was elected lawmaker of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) in Sunday 's general elections, was killed in a traffic accident in the Turkish capital of Ankara on Thursday, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported.
The accident happened on Thursday morning after Ozonder lost control of his car, which crashed into a minibus, said the report, adding that three others were also injured. Ozonder, who was born in Ankara in 1947, graduated from Department of Sociology of the Hacettepe University. During his academic career at the university, he became chairman of the department and made valuable contributions to the promotion of Turkish culture and history.
In the parliamentary elections on Sunday, three parties out of the 14 parties participated passed the 10-percent threshold to enter parliament with the ruling Justice and Development Party ( AKP) gaining 46.5 percent of votes, the CHP collecting 20.9 percent and the MHP 14.3 percent respectively.
