Talks for the formation of a new Belgian government had to be suspended on Thursday after a row between parties over income tax cut, VRT news reported. Five center right parties are trying to put together a new coalition government. On Wednesday evening, leader of the Francophone Christian democrats, Joelle Milquet, denied that any agreement had been reached to lower income tax. Her comments ran into contradiction with earlier remarks of the liberal spokesmen that an accord had been reached. Francophone liberal leader Didier Reynders immediately accused Milquet of speaking a very different language on the negotiating table.
On Thursday morning it was the turn of the Flemish liberals to flex their muscle. They threatened to boycott any government that did not lower taxes, according the VRT news.
