Floods triggered by incessant rains killed six more people in various parts of Nepal Thursday, The Himalayan Times reported on Friday. According to the daily, five persons of a family were killed when a landslide triggered by rains buried a house at Kavrechaur village of Salyan district in mid-western Nepal, some 300 km west of Kathmandu. Another person of Syadi village in Bajhang district in far- western Nepal, some 600 km west of Kathmandu, died when a landslide struck her house, police said.
At least two children have gone missing in Bankatte of Banke in western Nepal, some 400 km west of Kathmandu, police said. The flooded Rapti and Duduwa rivers have swamped most of the villages in seven villages of Banke. Banke CDO Krishna Acharya said police and army teams have been mobilized to rescue the affected people. Over 20 villages in Banke are waterlogged. As many as 16 villages, including some municipalities of Sunsari district in eastern Nepal, some 220 km east of Kathmandu, are waterlogged, while floods swept away three houses in Narsingh villages of the district. About 300 families in Hokalwadi Tole of Mahabhara and other areas in Jhapa district in eastern Nepal, some 400 km east of Kathmandu, have marooned due to flooding in the Baniyani river and Kamal Khola. Over 1,000 houses are waterlogged in Bardiya district in mid-western Nepal, some 390 km west of Kathmandu. At least five persons have died while a teenage girl has gone missing after being swept away by flashfloods caused by heavy rainfall in many districts of Nepal for the last couple of days.
