The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has introduced a new visa guideline, ordering all the country's departments of naturalization and residency to fix the photo of applicants on the visas, local newspaper Khaleej Times reported on Friday. The guideline was issued by the Department of Naturalization and Residency of the UAE Ministry of Interior in line with Minister Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan's directives to protect against manipulation and tampering of visas. According to the guideline, instead of the black and white photocopy, a color photocopy of the applicant's passport will have to be submitted along with the application for visa. The decision applies to all categories of visas. The visa with the photo will be submitted at the airport at the time of the arrival of the applicant.
The decision has been implemented at the Abu Dhabi Naturalization and Residency Department and will come into force immediately at departments in UAE's other emirates.
The UAE is comprised of seven emirates -- Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaimaah and Umm al-Qaiwain -- with a total population of 4.1 million, of whom 78.1 percent are expatriates, according to official figures.
