U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney will have a minor surgery on Saturday to replace the battery of the cardioveter-defibrillator in his chest.
Cheney's spokeswoman Megan McGinn said Friday that doctors has recommended that the battery be replaced after the vice president's annual medial checkup in June.
McGinn said that to replace the battery, the whole pacemaker that was implanted in June 2001 would have to be replaced. Cheney would undergo the surgery at George Washington University Hospital.
In March this year, Cheney, 66, was treated for a blood clot in his left leg, and he was taken to hospital early last year for shortness of breath.
Cheney, who has a history of heart problems, has had four heart attacks, a quadruple bypass surgery, two artery-clearing angioplasties and an operation to implant a special pacemaker in his chest.
