Gunmen killed six persons and seriously injured a local leader of an Iraqi Turkmen party after storming his house in a town in Salahudin Province in northern Iraq, a provincial police source said on Sunday.
"Eight gunmen stormed the house of the local head of the Turkmen Front late on Saturday in the town of Yangcha near the city of Toz Khurmato, 90 km east of Tikrit," the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
The gunmen shot dead six people and seriously wounded the local head of the Front, the source said, adding that two sons of the Turkmen official were among the dead.
The incident is under investigation, as the attackers crossed several checkpoints manned by the Kurdish Peshmerga militia, which fought the former Iraqi regime under Saddam Hussein and joined the Iraqi army after the U.S.-led war on Iraq.
