The legal aide of Thailand's ousted Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has applied to become a member of the Palang Prachachon Party (People Power Party), local media reported on Sunday.
Noppadol Pattama, the legal advisor of Thaksin and his family on Sunday affirmed to local media that he is in talks with the party's founders to join as a party member, following in the footsteps of members of the Thai Rak Thai group who recently announced their decision to join the party.
Noppadol admitted he has long been interested in politics and, as a former member of the now defunct Thai Rak Thai party, admires the Palang Prachachon party for their policies which he claims are similar to the former Thai Rak Thai's.
He also insisted that his political ambitions will not have any effect on his work for Thaksin Shinawatra as his legal advisor.
On Saturday, the executives of Thai Rak Thai Group, which is formed after the Thai Rak Thai Party was disbanded, decided to have its members contest for an upcoming general election under the Palang Prachachon Party.
In late May, the Constitution Tribunal of Thailand ordered dissolution of the Thai Rak Thai party for electoral fraud. All its 111 executives were also banned from politics for five years.
Since the authorities have not materially lifted the new party register ban, all the common members of the former Thai Rak Thai Party have to seek a new party for parliament members contest in the upcoming general election.
