Nepali Council of Ministers Sunday held an emergency meeting and decided to release emergency relief to flood victims across the country.
The immediate emergency relief to flood and landslides victims will be 50 million Nepali rupees (around 769,000 U.S. dollars ), leading website eKantipur reported.
Minister for Information and Communication Krishna Bahadur Mahara told reporters that all cabinet members have decided to donate 7 percent of their one month salary to the flood victims.
The cabinet meeting also decided to appeal to national and international donors to contribute to the government's relief efforts.
The emergency cabinet meeting came in the wake of widespread devastation and loss of lives in several Terai districts due to flash floods and landslides caused by heavy rainfall over the last few days. The death toll in the past week has climbed to around 40.
